Mets’ Matt Harvey suspended three games, files grievance

The New York Mets have suspended starting pitcher Matt Harvey three games without pay for violating team rules, general manager Sandy Alderson announced. Harvey filed a grievance against the Mets, according Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports. Because suspensions for violating team rules are unpaid, he is able to appeal directly to an independent arbitrator. Harvey was scheduled to start on Sunday afternoon. Adam Wilk started in Matt Harvey’s absence. He went 3 2/3 innings while giving up six runs on eight hits, three home runs. He also struck out two hitters. Alderson did not take questions from reporters. “We’ll keep it in-house, the way it’s supposed to be,” manager Terry Collins said. Collins called a team meeting after the press conference. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that Harvey did not show up to the ballpark on Saturday. Harvey reportedly had a migraine and a source close to his camp cited a possible communication issue with the Mets. Harvey was playing golf on Saturday morning, accordingto Heyman. An unnamed source told Peter Botte of the Daily News that the suspension stems from “a compilation of issues” that “dates back to last year.” Harvey’s suspension is not related to the sex toy that was placed in Kevin Pawecki’s locker, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick and Newsday’s Marc Carig. Harvey is 2–2 on the season with a 5.14 ERA and a 1.29...

Men can boost their attractiveness by owning this type of pet

By Diana Falzone Fox News Do you ever feel like Cupid has put you in the doghouse when it comes to finding love? Well, adopting a furry companion may help improve your fate. But not just any pet will do, a new survey suggests. THIS TYPE OF CHEATING IS ON THE RISE — HOW TO SPOT THE SIGNS Petsies, a company that makes stuffed animals, surveyed 1,000 men and women on how attracted they were to the opposite sex when possessing differently sized cats and dogs. Researchers showed study participants 12 pictures of the same people. Half of the group saw the person with a pet, while the other half saw him or her without a pet. Researchers used two pictures for each type of pet, and they were classified as “cat, kitten, puppies, small-sized dogs, medium-sized dogs and large-sized dogs.” Why cat owners may be unlucky in love In the study, women rated men toting puppies as almost 24 percent sexier, 14 percent more trustworthy and 13 percent more attractive than the same man not carrying a canine. Meanwhile, dogs that weren’t too big or too small gave women the biggest sexiness boost, as men rated them about 7 percent sexier and more attractive than if they weren’t carrying a canine at all. But in terms of trustworthiness, small dogs gave women the biggest advantage — men rated them nearly 9 percent more so than women without a dog.8 SIGNS YOU MIGHT BE DATING A NARCISSIST Owning a kitten or cat, on the other hand, didn’t do women in the survey any favors. Women with kittens were perceived as...

As The Venezuelan President Dances On TV, Protesters Get Run Over By Government Vehicles [VIDEO]

Venezuela is coming apart at the seams. The one rich country is falling in much the same way the old Soviet Union did. People are starving there and Maduro’s fix is to raise the minimum wage. Nice trick, except there are no businesses left to do that and it would fail anyway as it always does. California… take note. Tens of thousands of Venezuelans are protesting in the streets against their Marxist government. And predictably, the Maduro thugs send in big armored vehicles to quell the masses. If protesters get in the way, they just run over them. Not a problem. These are the same paramilitary guys that were given guns as the populace was stripped of their means of self-defense. Making matters even more surreal, as rioters were in the streets demanding this madness stop, President Maduro could be seen dancing on television as his country burns to the ground. The inflation rate in Venezuela is now somewhere between 1500% and 2000%. Their money is worthless. There is no food and people are desperate. I weep for Venezuela, which has abundant oil and natural resources, but now has no way to produce and sell them. It has beautiful countryside and the Marxists have ruined it all… just as they always do. From The Daily Wire: Anti-government protesters covered the streets of Caracas, Venezuela’s capital city, with rocks and Molotov cocktails as police in riot gear opened fire with tear gas and crowd-suppressing rounds.   On Wednesday — as seen in the video below — the angry protestors who want President Nicolas Maduro to step down decided to do...
The Psychology of Poverty

The Psychology of Poverty

Poverty in America is typically discussed as just another political issue, in cold, abstract terms, culminating in a liberal position or the conservative one. Forget policy – poverty’s most compelling aspect, driving everything from social planning to health care, is psychology. The political class knows this and uses it to their advantage. I have never known poverty, only financial hardship. Still, rolling nickels and dimes to pay the power bill affects your mindset in ways you don’t consciously realize. At some point, well before homelessness, the financially disadvantaged begin to perceive their problems as personal failings. In a culture that constantly urges us to spend-spend-spend and where friends and relatives flaunt their new cars and vacations, certainly, I must be doing something wrong. I work hard, I save money – maybe I’m just a failure as a person. That mindset, of course, just feeds on itself and leads to social and personal disaster. Yes, lifestyle choices do affect economic well-being, and some individuals do require a hard lesson in their day-to-day choices. In a society that loathes ‘judgmentalism,’ perhaps a few stern reminders of the importance of staying in school, getting married before starting a family, and spending wisely would be in order. Society always seeks a balance between understanding and tough love. Our choices do matter, but at the same time, someone who is just going through a rough patch, whether through job loss or illness, hates being told that “you made poor life choices–” one of my pet peeves. It is hard to tailor a message fit for everyone in poverty. Some people just need a little...
