Happy Memorial Day.

As a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and a Veteran of the Gulf War,  Memorial Day is a somber event in a sense, but it is also as a day of celebration. Since the inception of our great nation, we have been uniquely blessed by Almighty God and served by brave and determined men and woman who were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of Liberty and its protection to this day.

I am blessed to be part of a family who has been in America since the late 1600s with a military tradition to go with it. I understand the feeling that the meaning of Memorial Day has been lost, but has it really?

The men and woman who have both volunteered and been drafted in the service of this great nation understood what was at stake. The Founding Fathers and all who left family and fortune to fight tyranny and provide for a freer and more secure nation did so, not so we should mourn their loss, but that we should enjoy and be grateful for our liberty and security.

Those who gave up life and limb in the Civil War paved the way for us to live up to our proclamation that “All men are created equal.”  This is an ideal rooted in the Christian faith and is the greatest measure of men and women in how we treat our brothers and sisters.

Whether fighting Muslim pirates in Tripoli or defending friends and allies in WW I, defeating the Nazis and Imperial Japan or fighting the oppressive idealism of the communist American men and woman of all creeds and colors have fought to protect the ideal of Liberty and what is morally right across the world–  standing for God and Country.

So remember the fallen who gave their all

Who stared at death and answered the call

from the thickest jungle to desert terrain

They spilled their blood that Liberty could remain

Across the globe and on our shore

No one could have given more

So remember the fallen when raising your glass

At backyard BBQ or the parks with green grass

Remember the fallen with a toast of celebration

For those who secured the ideals of this Nation.

I believe we honor the fallen who gave all for us to be secure in our Liberty and abundance of life by celebrating while we remember them. They did not give up all for us to mourn; I believe we honor them by enjoying every minute of our freedom and the blessings from Almighty God above.

So remember the fallen, but celebrate life and the blessings of being a part of the freest country in world history.

So long for now and have a blessed weekend.
