The gallery containing an exhibit on segregation was closed for about three hours while U.S. Park Police investigated the incident in the nation’s capital, Smithsonian officials said. “The Smithsonian family stands together in condemning this act of hatred and intolerance, especially repugnant in a museum that affirms and celebrates the American values of inclusion and diversity,” Smithsonian Secretary David Skorton wrote in an Institution-wide email. Officials said it was unclear how long that noose, which was found by a Smithsonian police officer, had been...
Why Never Trumpers Won’t Support President Trump, and Why they Should

Why Never Trumpers Won’t Support President Trump, and Why they Should

What should we conservatives do about people we admire, and who share our values but still strongly oppose President Trump? We have two options. We can stop admiring them, and forget those friendships altogether or we have to try to understand them and change their minds. This article is trying to understand them, and hoping to change their minds. In the case of my conservative friends; that means my only choice is option two. But to try to change their minds, I must first try to understand their thinking. There are a few reasons that explain conservatives who were NeverTrumpers during the election, and who remain anti-Trump today. The first is something Dennis Prager said recently: “They do not believe that America is engaged in a civil war, with the survival of America as we know it at stake.” While they see and understand what the left has done to this country, they do not see the left-right battle as I do. They do not see we are in a battle for preserving our nation. While I, and other conservatives who support President Trump do see it that way. Related: we-must-stop-trump-assails-political-correctness-after-attacks That is why, after supporting Senator Ted Cruz for President and opposing Trump’s candidacy during the Republican primaries, I vigorously supported Trump once he won the nomination. I believed then, as I do now, that this election was different from all other previous presidential elections. This election was not about Left vs. Right, it was not about the issues between Progressives vs. Conservatives. It wasn’t even about Democrats vs. Republicans. This battle was for the very existence of America as...

Hits Facebook & even Dems & DNC,” Trump 2wrote. Crooked Hillary Clinton now blames everybody but herself, refuses to say she was a terrible candidate. Hits Facebook & even Dems & DNC. — Donald J. ‘BLANKET’ APPROVAL White House grants top staffers ethics waivers

(AP Photo/Andrew Harnik) White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway were two of 11 Trump administration staffers who received ethics waivers, according to a list made public Wednesday evening. In addition to the 11 named staffers, the list also noted that so-called “blanket” waivers were given to all appointees in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), commissioned officers in the White House Office and former employees of the law firm Jones Day, including White House Counsel Don McGahn. The EOP waiver states that all presidential appointees “may participate in communications and meetings with news organizations regarding broad policy matters.” That clears the way, ethically, for Steve Bannon, Breitbart’s former chief executive and now Trump’s chief strategist, to ring up reporters at the news site.
